I had queued a post about how there was no reading for this week, and how Saturday’s Tinychat would be to discuss last week’s chapters, BUT IT NEVER PUBLISHED.

I am so, so sorry, guys. I hate the queue. It is my new enemy.

But, like I said, there’s no reading this week. Tomorrow’s Tinychat will be at 4 pm EST like always, and we’ll be discussing last week’s chapters.

I said that reading the next four chapters would bring us up to Ninety-Nine Days Before, when really it brings us up to One Hundred Days Before. I am so sorry! If you read the extra chapter, that’s fine, but if you are going to be participating in tomorrow’s tinychat try to not talk about it since there will be people who haven’t read it.

Sorry if this caused any confusion. I guess I need to learn how to count correctly…

And remember, tinychat tomorrow at 4 pm EST. I’ll post reminders again tomorrow when it gets closer to 4. Hope to see you there.

Post-Meeting Minutes:

No one wants to try the Colonel’s Ambrosia
Even though Alaska said earlier that the Colonel and Pudge smoke to enjoy it, it really seems that they use cigarettes more as a coping mechanism
Alaska seems to be at the moment the most interesting puzzle in Pudge’s life, even though there’s a lot of other things going on around him
Maybe the Colonel stays with Sara because change and loneliness are too hard
Also he may feel like he’s just destined to follow in his parent’s footsteps in terms of dysfunctional relationships
There are parallels with Dr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because of Dr. Hyde’s appearance (he fits the physical description of Hyde) and his asking the question, “What is the nature of being a person?” which is a theme brought up in the book
Both Alaska and Miles’s names bring to mind images of long, open spaces
However, Alaska feels more free and wild with more chance of getting lost, while Miles brings to mind connotations of a stricter path and a set destination
It seems that these are what each other need (Alaska needs a bit more direction and a path while Miles needs more freedom and the chance to get lost)
The Colonel’s insistence on being called the Colonel and not Chip could be a way of him taking control of his identity more
